Year 2014 remains the year of protests in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: The Year 2014 remained the year of protests in Pakistan as the long marches, sit-ins of Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf and Pakistan Awami Tehrik have kept the suspended the several activities and created political crisis for four months.

Peshawar, Model Town incidents, operation Zarb-e-Azab, Protection of Pakistan Ordinance, the support of political Parties to democratic government, resigns of PTI parliamentarians, Javed Hashmi detachment from PTI, minors’ deaths in Thar and Sargodha produced news for media.
Prime Minister’s visit to India remained significant but could not brought expected results, however the ties with China increased instead of cancellation of visit of Chinese president. Pakistan signed several agreements with China.
The mega Rawalpindi-Islamabad metro bus service project started in March. The provincial governments remained reluctant for holding local bodies elections except Balochistan while the federal government could not over come the gas and electricity load-shedding.
According to analyst Brigadier retired Farooq Hameed Khan said that the federal government could secure less success and more failures during year 2014, however government continued efforts to reduce the electricity and fuel prices. The political forces remained divided over terrorism issue.
