NACTA to hold meeting on Dec 31

ISLAMABAD: The first-ever meeting of the National Counter Terrorism Authority (Nacta) will open on Wednesday in anticipation of the effort to implement the National Action Plan on eliminating militancy.

 
The authority, after getting the parliament’s nod, will kick off its operation against armed militias, proscribed organizations (operating inside and outside of the country), terror on the internet and insurgency in Balochistan next week.
“We are going to finalize our thoughts on the National Action Plan (NAP) on Wednesday – also will focus on implementation of the internal national security policy,” Nacta national coordinator Hamid Ali Khan told the media.

“Within two days, we will send our findings to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif,” he said. “The PM will give us the go-ahead to our operative plan next week.”
Emphasizing on better cooperation, he said: “We are developing a new cohesion among all intelligence bodies with one objective – counter terrorism.”
Nacta’s national coordinator stated that the issue of manpower, infrastructure and cohesion with counter terrorism bodies will be discussed in the meeting. Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan will chair this important meeting where senior officials of intelligence agencies, home departments, etc. will participate, the proposed agenda noted.
The interior minister is supervising 11 committees which will make recommendations to execute national action plan, the officials added.
The Nacta meeting will discuss how to stop the re-emergence of banned organizations, according to the proposed agenda which continued to reveal that officials will also discuss the issue of eliminating armed militias from all the provinces including Fata.
Another key part of this agenda includes that the committee members will also steer a second committee that will make recommendations on how to counter hate speech and extremist material. In proposed agenda of Thursday, the meeting will also discuss how to form counter-terrorism force and ensure its deployment by May 31, 2015
It is worth mentioning here that Nacta is an independent authority which is directly answerable to Prime Minister.
It is pertinent to mention here that a special committee was constituted for implementation on National Action Plan for terrorism, in which Federal Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, Information and Broadcasting Minister Parveez Rasheed, Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal, Defense Minister Khawaja Asif and Advisor to Prime Minister on national security and foreign issues Sirtaj Aziz are included.

These all important meeting are being held in the perspective of attack on Army Public School Peshawar on 16 December, in which Tehreek Taliban Pakistan (TTP) killed more than 140 innocent children, after this tragedy whole nation was grieved, while Civil and Military leaderships also came on one page to root out terrorism from the country.Federal ministers, Political and law advisors and Attorney general were present in the high level meeting chaired by Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif. Attorney general briefed the meeting regarding legal and constitutional matters.
