Fahim not to betray party says Zardari

GARHI KHUDA BAKHSH:  Former president and Co-chairman Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Asif Zardari has said that they would sign the document of agreement on a condition that the military courts would not be used against civilians. Zardari advised the Prime Minister (PM) to be careful in the matter and should not let these courts have both of them tried.

Addressing a big gathering on the occasion of the 7 th death anniversary of former prime minister Benazir Bhutto here, Asif Zardari said it must be ensured that the law of military courts does not take the shape of a ‘black law’ in future. The PPP Co-chairman said: “We will accept the new law after it is ensured thattomorrow it will not used against any democratic party, scholar or journalist.”

He said from Zia era till today he and his party had always stood against all kinds of atrocities. “No terrorist can scare us under any situation and we will wage a war for the cause of protecting our rights,” he vowed. Zardari said the last time this law was enacted the result was that ‘we were all in jails’.Reassuring that there were no cracks in the integrity of party leadership, Co-chairman PPP vehemently dismissed reports that his son Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s was angry with him over certain political decisions.

“There is no truth in the rumours, propagandized by our rivals, that I and Bilawal are drifting apart,” Zardari said, adding that the opponents had spread all kinds of rumours against his party and clarified that Makhdoom Amin Fahim had neither committed treachery in the past nor would he do so in future.
Delivering an impassioned speech, the widower of late prime minister of Pakistan, said that had the carnage of Jiyalas (the PPP’s diehard workers) in Karachi been taken seriously back in the day a tragedy like Peshawar school massacre would not have come to pass today.
“If they had nailed the assassins of late Benazir Bhutto those innocents, who were slaughtered in Peshawar might be alive today,” he said.
Getting down to the hot potato of military courts, to be formed for the speedy trials of terror suspects, he said that the PPP had always been against the draconian laws.
“We don’t want anyone to be persecuted under such laws. Mian Sahib (Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif), watch out lest you and I should be thrown in the jail,” the PPP leader said vowing his party would make sure the military courts were not used for victimization.
Making a mocking allusion to the establishment, Zardari said had the Billa (tomcat) taken a notice of the terrorist activities in the past things would have been different now.
As many as 450 children were killed on the Shara-e-Faisal, he said adding said that they do not know the difference between ‘good’ and ‘bad’ Taliban.
He said that he has been trained by late Benazir Bhutto. PPP co-chairman expressed a resolve to continue standing up for what is right. He said that the they would continue to fight to make this country stronger.
Zardari also said that Benazir had demanded separation between Afghan and Kashmir jihad. “However, those with narrow vision, linked the two and weakened the cause of Kashmir,” he added.
