Smith rescues Australia on 1st day of Boxing day Test against India

MELBOURNE: Smith’s unbeaten 72 runs helped Australia to score 259 runs against India at the end of first day of Boxing day test played at Melbourne cricket ground on Friday.

Skipper Steven Smith continued his brilliant form as he led Australia to score 259 runs on loss of 5 wickets at the end of the day with Brad Haddin still batting on unbeaten 23.

Australia batting first lost the big wicket of inform opener David Warner who departed without troubling the score board.

While Chris Rogers smashed his third consecutive half century before getting himself caught behind on the bowl of Mohammad Shami. On the other hand Shane Watson also departed in the next over after scoring 52 runs.

Skipper Smith along with Shaun Marsh added 69 for the fourth wicket to stable the team’s position. Shaun after scoring 32 was also caught behind on the bowl of Mohammad Shami.

Smith added 40 runs partnership with the debutant Joe Burns who lost his wicket after scoring 13, while Skipper continued his inning to score another half century.

Smith and Haddin scored unbeaten 40 runs partnership for the sixth wicket.

Umash Yadav and Mohammad Shami managed to pick up two wickets each for the visitors.
