Christian community celebrates Christmas across Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: Christian community throughout the country celebrated Christmas, an event of peace and happiness on Thursday. Many celebrations and Christmas prayers were held in all the cities of Pakistan.

Christmas celebrations were held in all major cities of the country including Islamabad, Lahore, Karachi, Quetta, Peshawar and Muzzaffarabad. Special prayers were offered on the ever of Christmas for the safety and progress of Pakistan.
In Gujranwala, Christmas celebrations were started in 712 churches of the region. In accordance to Christmas, the security was beefed up to avoid any mishap.

Local administration had deployed 3,538 constables and 749 police officers at various churches whereas other 469 national volunteers, 116 working men and 469 working women of NGOs also helped the police of Gujranwala, Sialkot, Gujrat, Hafizabad, Narowal and Mandi Bhauddin.
Further, a central control room had been established at Central Police Office (CPO).
Moreover, in a wake of security measurements, administration had also alerted the relevant departments of security like special branch and Counter Terrorism Department (CTD).
However; with many churches canceling celebrations, the Christian community in Pakistan had a low key Christmas celebrations out of the respect for Peshawar massacre victims.
The simple celebrations were begun just as the Christmas Eve started with prayer services in the churches and households.
The Christmas celebrations continued throughout the night and the day. The festivities were included distributing presents among children and cutting cakes. The churches across the country prayed for the stability and peace in Pakistan.
Several churches have already been paying homage and leading prayers for the victims of Peshawar massacre that left 142 people including 133 children dead.
