SRINAGAR: Outgoing Chief Minister of Indian-held Kashmir Omer Abdullah acknowledged that the elections in Kashmir were not a substitution to the Kashmiris’ right to self-determination.
Addressing his last press conference as chief minister of Indian-administered Kashmir, Omer Abdullah said that linking Kashmir election with Pak-India relations or Kashmir dispute was not correct.
The elections in no way can be a substitute to Kashmiris’s right to self-determination, he said adding that elections were only meant to provide a better administration. “Any one who is presenting nay other justification of the elections other than that is outrightly wrong and that would also create problems for future elections,” he cautioned.
It is to be mentioned here that all the pro-freedom parties had observed complete boycott of the state elections. As per the election results, People’s Democratic Party (PDP) of Mehbooba Mufti has emerged as majority party in the State Assembly followed by BJP, Congress and National Conference. However, no party has absolute majority to form government.
