Afghan General, ISAF commander visit GHQ

RAWALPINDI: Afghan Chief of General Staff General Sher Muhammad and an ISAF commander on Tuesday visited General Headquarters (GHQ) Rawalpindi.

According to Inter-Services Public Relations, the Afghan general and ISAF commander met Army Chief General Raheel Sharif during their visit to GHQ.

It said that Afghan General and ISAF commander praised ongoing military operation Zarb-e-Azb against militants in North Waziristan. They assured General Raheel Sharif of taking action against TTP members taking shelters in Afghan areas bordering Pakistan.

It is to be mentioned here that Army Chief Gen Raheel Sharif had gone to Kabul soon after the Peshawar massacre in a school and had got assurances on from the Afghan government and International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan (Isaf) for action against a Kunar-based Taliban splinter group, which is believed to be behind the Peshawar army school massacre which left more than 130 schoolchildren dead.

Gen Sharif, accompanied by ISI Chief Lt Gen Rizwan Akhtar made an unscheduled visit to Afghanistan for sharing vital elements of intelligence with Afghan President Ashraf Ghani and Commander of Coalition Forces in Afghanistan General John Campbell.
