India threatens not to host any hockey event in future

NEW DELHI: Indian Hockey Federal (IHF) president Narendra Batra threatened The International Hockey Federation (FIH) not to host international event in future over refusing any strict action against alleged ‘hurling indecent and obscene gestures towards the crowd after victory’.

IHF president sought ‘unconditional apology’ from Pakistan players over their ‘obscene gestures’ amid crowd during their victory celebration.

He raised questions over Pakistani players’ celebration by taking off their shirts and vulgur signs amid crowd.

However, the Indian hockey federal threatened FIH for not hosting any international event in future if no action was taken against the Pakistani players.

Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) defied the Indian threats immediately, stated that the country was ready to host all international tournaments of FIH after refusal of Indian Hockey Federation (IHF).

Pakistan’s head coach Shahnaz Sheikh also reacted rapidly, said that Pakistanis would not make any apology before Indian hockey federation. He clarified that the players were reacting upon the sorrowful attitude of the local crowd.

It should be mentioned here that FIH had stated via press release that they spoke to the head coach of the Pakistan team, Shahnaz Sheikh and told him that the behaviour of Pakistan players went beyond what is acceptable to standards of the FIH. The behaviour in question concerned many members of the Pakistan team.

However, it was difficult to find any particular miscreant, and it was possible that the behaviour of the players may have been a reaction,” said the release.
