Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) observed across country

LAHORE, RAWALPINDI, KARACHI: Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) was observed across the country on Saturday to commemorate the matchless sacrifices of Nawasa-e Rasool (SAW) and his companions at Karbala. 

According to details, processions were taken out and majalis were held in all the main cities and towns to pay homage to the martyrs of Karbala.

Strict security arrangements were made to ensure security to the processions and the Majalis.

 

In Karachi, about 70 small and big processions were taken out while more than 290 majalis were held all over the city. Main procession in connection with Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) was taken out from Nishtar Park that culminated at Imambargah Hussainian Iranian Kharadar in the evening after passing through its traditional route.
To ensure fool-proof security for the mourners, the shops situated along the route of the procession including MA Jinnah Road, Saddar, Regal Chowk, Jamia Cloth Market and Bolton Market, were sealed following proper scanning by bomb disposal squad.

Strict security measures were taken to maintain law and order on the occasion. Processions were taken out and majalis were held in every nook and corner of the country to mark the 40th day to the martyrdom of Imam Hussain (RA).Foolproof security arrangements were made for the main Chehlum procession in Lahore, Karachi, Rawalpindi and other cities of the country. Ban on pillion riding was imposed in major cities Sindh, Punjab, KPK and Balochistan.

According to sources, the ban on pillion riding was imposed to counter possible security threats on the occasion of Chehlum. Moreover police officials were deployed at sensitive areas in all major cities.

Processions were organized in different cities of the country including Karachi, Lahore, Rawalpindi, Multan, Peshawar and Quetta. The mourners paid rich homage to the martyrs of Karbala by reciting Nohas.

Meantime, the roads and streets opening up on to the procession route were barricaded with shipping containers.
In Balochistan, cellular services were suspended in seven districts including Quetta.
