ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Vice-Chairman Shah Mehmood Qureshi on Tuesday called for operation clean-up in Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), saying that PTI has complete trust in Chief Election Commissioner Justice (retd) Sardar Raza Khan but has not trust in the four other members of ECP.
Talking to media after meeting newly-appointed CEC, Qureshi said that the new CEC had unblemished track record as a judge and a credible man, but the four provincial members of the ECP were controversial so there was a need of operation clean-up in the commission.
He said that the PTI had taken up the task to ensure free and fair election in the country, adding that restoring trust and confidence in ECP would be a great challenge for new CEC, but PTI would extend all out support to the CEC for the task.
He said that printing ballot papers was ECP’s responsibility, but now the ECP had become controversial as it changed four time its stand over printing of extra ballot papers.
Qureshi said that with the appointment of a credible and honest man as CEC, the prospect of free and fair election had increased, however ensuring transparent and fair election was not possible till those responsible for rigging and malpractices in last elections were held accountable.
During the meeting with the nez CEC, Qureshi was accompanied by Shireen Mazari, Yasmeen Rashid, Hamid Khan and others.
