Major relief for power consumers as govt plans 20pc cut in tariff

ISLAMABAD:  The government is planning to introduce a new tariff slab for domestic power consumers, which will bring down electricity bills of the domestic consumers by 20 percent.

The government through the Ministry of Water and Power has decided to introduce a new tariff slab for domestic power consumers.

Under the plan, the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) has been requested through Distribution Companies (Discos) to introduce a new tariff slab for domestic consumers consensus power from 300 to 500 units per month.

With the introduction of new tariff slab, the electricity bills of power consumers would come down by 20 percent for which the government would have to give Rs22 billion subsidy.
