KARACHI: Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif has said that it is necessary to resolve the long standing issue of Kashmir and Palestine to achieve peace in the region adding that the defence needs are being changed with the passage of time.
He was addressing at the defence exhibition IDEAS-2014 at Expo Centre in Karachi on Thursday, the fourth and last day of exhibition.
Addressing on the occasion, the COAS said that Pakistan is an extremely brave and determined nation while presence of non-government organizations (NGO’s) and other multi-national companies complicate the internal security situation.
He said that terrorists are a threat of not only to Pakistan but also the whole of the world peace.
The Army Chief said Pakistan is confronting many disputes for the last thirty five years and increasing poverty and joblessness are big challenges.
The COAS further said that solving Kashmir and Palestine issue was necessary for maintaining peace in the region.
During his visit, Gen Raheel Sharif examined the local and international arms and ammunition displayed on the stalls.
The Army Chief also exchanged views with the foreign delegation who are participating in the exhibition. The stalls set up at the Expo Centre displayed arms and ammunition from countries including China and Turkey.
The COAS will also attend and address the seminar about the defense exhibition held at a local hotel in Karachi.
Many foreign companies also displayed products specific to Pakistan’s challenges.
At least 256 defense equipment manufacturers took part in IDEAS 2014.
