PTI alters plan ‘C’ : Dates for nationwide, Lahore’s shut-down changed

LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Monday changed  the schedule of its planned shut-down of cities and the whole country, with the countrywide shutdown will now be carried out on December 18 instead of earlier announced date of December 16, 2015.

According to reports, a meeting of PTI senior leaders chaired by party chief Imran Khan decided  to alter the schedule of the announced shutdown for varied reasons.

According to the revised schedule, PTI will now shutdown the whole country on December 18 instead of the announced date of December 16, while the planned shutdown of Lahore on December 4 has also been changed. Now the party will implement its call for shutdown of Lahore on December 15, 2014.

Sources said that Jamat-ul-Dawa (JuD) headed by Hafiz Muhammad Saeed was going to hold its two-day annual congregation on December 4 and 5 at Minar-e-Pakistan Lahore, which is coinciding with PTI’s shutdown call of Lahore.  The JuD leadership contacted PTI and requested for changing its announced shutdown of Lahore on Dec 4.

The PTI leadership accepted the JuD request and rescheduled its call to close down the provincial metropolis Lahore on Dec 15.

The call for nationwide shutdown was also changed, as it was for Dec 16, the day when some 43 years back Pakistan was dismembered. There were criticism over PTI to give call for nationwide shutdown of the country on the day of a national tragedy.

Sources said that the PTI leadership changed the date for paralyzing the whole country owing to the criticism.

Sources said that the PTI will go ahead with its announced plant to shutdown Faisalabad and the port city Karachi on December 8 and 12, respectively.

Its is to be mentioned here that PTI chief Imran Khan while addressing a mammoth rally on Sunday in Islamabad had announced to shutdown major cities in phases and then the whole country to press the government to audit the alleged rigging and irregularities in 2013 general elections. Imran titled the phased shutdown of cities and nationwide as Plan C, saying that it it failed he would unveiled Plan D which Nawaz Sahirf could not withstand.
