JUI-F’s strike call may spoils PTI’s Islamabad show

ISLAMABAD: The killing of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUIF) leader Dr Khalid Mehmood Soomro in Sukkur and subsequent call for countrywide wheel-jam strike on Sunday by the party might affect Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) grand anti-government show in Islamabad scheduled for the same day.

After Soomro’s killing JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman gave a call for country-wide wheel-jam strike for Sunday, urging party workers to take to streets across the country and block roads to protest the killing of Dr Soomro.

The JUI-F chief specific orders to party worker to block roads might severely impact PTI workers mobility and march on Islamabad, as the JUI-F has the capability and street power to jam the wheel across the country.

In Rawalpindi and adjoining areas, the JUI-F has considerable support base especially comprising on seminary students, who can effectively block roads leading to jamming the wheel that would be a blow to PTI bid to bring large crowd to Islamabad to oust the government.

Sources in PTI said that the party was especially focusing the twin cities and adjoining districts to mobilize people for Sunday’s rally. The PTI is also banking on its supporters and workers from KPK, its main support base where it is in power, but the JUI-F has the ability to effectively close down KPK districts including provincial metropolis.
