Blasts rock northern Kabul, heavy gunfire underway

KABUL: A high-intensity bomb explosions were heard in northern party of Afghanistan’s capital Kabul on Thursday night, while heavy gunfire underway after the blast. 

The incident was reported by the foreign journalists witnessing the explosion and heavy gunfire continues in street 15 of Wazir Akbar Khan neighbourhood in northern Kabul.

No casualties officially reported in the attack as far but a foreign news agency reported that a suicide attack carried out at Afghan Embassy’s car which killed 5.

An Afghan journalist claimed that a suicide attack carried out in 13th street of Wazir Akbar Khan neighbourhood of northern Kabul.

Fierce armed fighting continues near Afghan VP General Abdul Rashid Dostum’s house which is near the diplomatic district, foreign media reported.

Omid Farooq, host for current affairs shows at TOLOnews, tweeted, ‘Loud explosion and gun fire shots heard in Wazir Akbar Khan / Shir Poor area of #Kabul’

Bethany E. Matta, Multi-media reporter based out of Kabul, tweeted that ‘Smoke rising in Wazir area and small arms fire heard.’

Sudarsan Raghavan, The Washington Post’s Kabul bureau chief, said via Twitter, ‘ Hearing sporadic gunfire after blast in #kabul. From Wazir Akbar Khan enclave, we are told. Affluent area where lots of foreigners live.’
