Qureshi flays Sartaj Aziz’s statement for spoiling Zarb-e-Azb’s impact

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Vice Chairman Shah Mehmood Qureshi on Wednesday criticized the statement of Advior to Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz, saying that it spoiled the impact of Zarb-e-Azb operation being carried out against militants of all shades.

Addressing a press conference, Qureshi said that he was aware of the sensitivity of the matter, saying that the Advisor gave a statement which is completely in negation of Pakistan stated policy.

He said that the statement Pakistan was targeting all terrorists groups. He said that there was a certain lobby in US media and Congress which wanted to paint Pakistan differently.

He deplored that the Advisor’s statement gave the world an opportunity to point finger at Pakistan.

It is to be mentioned here that Adviser to the Prime Minister on National Security and Foreign Affairs, Sartaj Aziz had reportedly said that Pakistan should not target militants who do not threaten the country’s security.

“Why should America’s enemies unnecessarily become our enemies,” Sartaj Aziz was quoted by BBC Urdu during an interview, adding:  “When the United States attacked Afghanistan, all those that were trained and armed were pushed towards us.

“Some of them were dangerous for us and some are not. Why must we make enemies out of them all?,” he said when speaking about the Haqqani Network.

Though Foreign Officer later clarified that the Advisor’s statement was taken out of context and Pakistan’s policy is to target all militant groups without any discrimination.
