New ordinance for Red Zone security in the offing

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan government on Saturday decided to use a presidential ordinance for increased security measures in Red Zone of Islamabad, the federal capital of Pakistan.


A draft has been finalised in order to increase security and maintenance of law and order in the Red Zone, sources said.

According to reports, an authority would be established to secure high security zone of Islamabad. Special powers will be given to police officials.

Inspector General Police, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Police, Deputy Commissioner and Chief Commissioner would be included in the authority.

Police officials will be authorise to stop and check any person entering in the Red Zone while strict punishments would be imposed on violations.

Reports revealed that the violator will be sent on one month imprisonment or have to pay Rs1-2 thousands fine money over stopping police officials during their duties.

Anyone entering Red Zone premises illegal would be punished up to 6 months imprisonment or fine of Rs5-10 thousands.

Public gathering without permission of higher authorities would result 3 year imprisonment or fine of Rs5-10 thousands

The ordinance will also stop persons carrying or waving weapons inside Red Zone besides using children and women as their shields. The person who found littering or strewing garbage in the high security zone would face fine of Rs1-2 thousands.
