BANNU:  Pakistan Muslim League leader MNA Marvi Memon has staged a sit-in  Bannu Prison against the arrest and baton charging of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) of North Waziristan by police, demanding immediate release of the detainees.

The female lawmaker, who is also chairperson of National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Information and Broadcasting, has announced to continue with the sit-in till the release of the IPDs, who were arrested by police following a clash at a ration distribution centre.

Talking to a private TV channel, Marvi Memon said that police committed excesses with the IDPs. She also criticized the provincial government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for poor crowd management and arrangements at the ration distribution centre.

Marvi, who is also accompanied by a PML-N MNA from North Waziristan, said that she had talked to IGP Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Home Secretary and other official, who assured her to release the detained IDPs. However, she added, the officials had not yet materialized their pledge to release the IDPs.

She said that they would not end their protest till the release of all the detainees.

It is to be mentioned here that eight policemen and 11 internally displaced persons (IDPs) were injured in a clash at  the ration centre near Bannu Sports Complex. Follwing the clash, police arrested many IDPs.
