SC gives 11 more days to appoint CEC

ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court of Pakistan (SC) on Thursday gave 11 more days to appoint Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) against the government’s request for one more month.

The SC bench headed by Chief Justice Nasir Ul Mulk  heard the government petition regarding extension of deadline for appointing CEC after the end of the earlier deadline on Thursday (today).

Attorney General Salman Aslam Butt had requested the SC  to provide one more month to appoint CEC as two of the proposed persons for the slot had refused to hold the office.

The SC in its order rejected the government demand and gave till November 24 to appoint the CEC.

The SC said after the deadline the apex court would withdraw the SC judge justice Anwer Zaheer Jamali serving as acting CEC.
