Thar famine report: Show-cause notices to Qaim Ali Shah, Wassan withdrawn

KARACHI: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) on Saturday withdrew the show-cause notices served on Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah and Sindh Minister for Prison over allegedly leaking of the findings of an investigation into to Thar famine to media.

Last year, PPP Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari had tasked Sindh Minister for Prison Manzoor Wassan to hold an inquiry into the famine-like situation in Tharparker and subsequent deaths of children so as to fix responsibility.

Earlier this week, media reported the findings of the inquiry, which allegedly held the provincial government responsible for the deaths of children and corruptions in distributions of relief goods. The report cause embarrassment for the party and PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari issued show cause notice to Wassan and Qaim Ali Shah for leaking the report’s findings to media.

However, Bilawal House Spokesman said that the show-cause notices were withdrawn. It said that the notices were withdrawn on the instructions of party chief Bilawal Bhutto.
