ISLAMABAD: Lieutenant General Rizwan Akhtar on Friday took over charge, as new Director General of Pakistan’s premier intelligence agency, Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI).
Rizwan Aktar has replaced Lt. General Zaheerul Islam, who retired on Thursday, Nov 6.
Akhtar is the 21st DG of the ISI, who before promotion to Lt. General was Director General  of Sindh Rangers.
As DG Rangers, Akhtar has been the architect of the Karachi targeted operation launched against the criminals, militants, gangsters and different mafias in the financial hub of the country last year.
The targeted operation led to marked improvement in law and order situation of the port city of the country.
Though it lost its pace and effectiveness following political interference and transfer of the police officials, Akhtar protest against removal of key police officials, who were heading the operation in an effective manner and were giving positive results.
