No new appointment as Secretary ECP retires

ISLAMABAD: Secretary Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) Ishtiaq Ahmed Khan retired on Tuesday.Ishtiaq Ahmed Khan had been given  extension twice.

The ECP had sought three names from Establishment Division for appointment at the important post. Despite the incumbent Secretary retired on Tuesday, the government has not given any name.

Besides secretary ECP, the provincial Election commissioners of KP and Punjab will also retire on Wednesday.

It is pertinent to mention here that post of chief election commissioner is also vacant for over one year.

The government and opposition have not yet agreed on a new name to be appointment as permanent CEC, despite the Supreme Court is pressing both for the  same.

 The Supreme Court of Pakistan has given November 13 deadline for appointment of permanent CEC, threatening that in case of failure it would withdraw its judge who is currently serving as acting CEC.
