ISLAMABAD: A new bench of the Supreme Court headed by Justice Jawwad S Khawaja will resume hearing on identical petitions seeking disqualification of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Wednesday.
The petitions, filed by PTI leader Ishaq Khakwani and PML-Q President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain, seek disqualification of the prime minister for allegedly falsely stating in the National Assembly on Aug 29 that the government had not asked the army to mediate and become a guarantor between the government and the protesting Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf and Pakistan Awami Tehreek to end their sit-ins on the Constitution Avenue.
Earlier, a division bench of the apex court comprising Justice Jawwad S Khwaja and Justice Qazi Faez Essa was hearing the petitions. However, a larger bench headed by Justice Khwaja and comprising Justice Mushir Aalam and Sarmad Jalal Usmani has been constituted to hear the petition from Wednesday.
