British-Iranian woman gets one-year jail term for attending volleyball match

TEHRAN: A British-Iranian woman, Ghoncheh Ghavami, has been sentenced to one year in jail for trying to attend a volleyball match.

Ghavami, a 25-year-old law graduate who was detained in June at a Tehran stadium where IranĀ“s national volleyball team was to play Italy, went on trial last month.

She has been sentenced for one year imprisonment, her lawyer Alizadeh Tabatabaie was quoted in Iranian media as saying, without giving the reason for the conviction.
