Blast near Wagah border Killed 55, injured many others including rangers personnel

LAHORE: A  powerful blast near Wagah border on Sunday (today) evening killed 55 people and injured many others including rangers personnel, women, children,  media reported.
According to the report, the blast stated to be a suicide  reported near Wagah border and Parade Ground, killing 55  people including 11 women  and three rangers personnel and injuring many others.

Out of 55 only 25 have been identified yet.

The blast also damaged shops, motorcycles, vehicles  in the area and  ranger’s personnel were also Killed in the blast .

The bodies and injured were shifted to Gharki Hospital for initial treatment and emergency also imposed in the hospital.

MS of the Hospital said that 35 bodies and 70 injured were brought to the hospital. More 20 people were shifted to the Services Hospital Lahore and 15 people were transferred to the Shalimar Hospital as well.

The hospital premises became short due to large number of deaths and injuries and dead bodies were placed in parking area of hospital, media reported.

The dead include eight people of a family and three rangers personnel were also embraced martyrdom.

The rangers and police have cordoned off  the area and started search operation.

The report said that the blast occurred in restaurant near the Wagah border and Parade Ground.

Now IG Punjab Mushtaq Sukhera has confirmed that it was a suicide blast. He said that suicide bomber blew himself up near second barrier at Wagah border.

Earlier, first it was reported as cylinder blast but casualties in the blast said  something different. Eyewitnesses have said that it could be suicide blast. While CCPO Lahore earlier hinted that  it might be terrorists activity and now it has confirmed.

The blast went off around 5.30 pm. The media said that large number of ball barrings were used in the blast.

At the time of the blast people were leaving the area after watching routine parade of Pakistani and Indian forces.
