JERUSALEM: Israel is likely to open the Al-Aqsa mosque for Friday prayer, as it shut the third holiest place of Islam on Thursday following clashes in Occupied East Jerusalem where police killed a Palestinian accused of trying to murder a hardline rabbi.
According to reports, Israel authorities would reopen the mosque for Friday prayers.
Earlier, Al-Aqsa mosque was entirely shut since morning on Thursday.
Sheikh Azzam al-Khatib, head of the Jordan-run Organization for Muslim Endowments and Al-Aqsa Affairs told that this is not the first time Israel shut the mosque completely.
He said, the holy site haven’t been shut since 1967.
The Israeli closure of the Al Aqsa Mosque compound came shortly after Jewish rabbi Yehuda Glick was seriously injured in a drive-by shooting in Jerusalem late Wednesday.
