PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has approached Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) regarding local bodies’ elections in the province, as the provincial government is advocating for holding the upcoming local bodies elections in the province through bio-metric system to ensure greater transparency.
According to sources, the ECP has proposed the KP government to use bio-metric system in some urban areas of the province on a small scale. However, the provincial government has opposed the idea, saying that the ECP should conduct the whole elections in the province through bio-metric system to ensure transparency.
The ECP is of the view that use of bio-metric system for entire election across the province would delay the polls.
However, the ECP has convened a meeting with National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) high-ups to discuss the use of bio-metric system in the upcoming local bodies’ elections in the province.
