Britain vacates last military base after 13-year-war in Afghanistan

LONDON: Britain has vacated its last military base, Camp Bastion, after a 13-year-war in Afghanistan and handed over the base to Afghan forces on Sunday, October 26.

British army have been present in Afghanistan since 2001 and Camp Bastion had been a central base of British army since 2006 in Afghanistan. The Camp is located in Helmand province of Afghanistan.

However, more than 2700 British soldiers are still in the country. Britain’s 453 soldiers have been killed in these 13 years.

On this occasion, US, Britain and Afghan forces gave guard of honour and sang the national anthems of the three countries.

Britain has spent billions of pounds during the 13 years.
