Agencies press govt for NGOs’ annual audit

ISLAMABAD: Intelligence agencies are pressing government for conducting annual audit of local and foreign non-governmental organizations (NGO’s), media reported.

According to the report, the intelligence agencies of the country have written a letter to overseeing authority of NGOs, Economic Affairs Division, which stated that in the wake of existing security situation there is a need of strict oversight of the NGOs.

The intelligence agencies have warned to the authority NGOs could become threat to national security if their oversight was not tightened.

The agencies have suggested that practical measures must be taken for annual audit and services of auditor general might be take for the purpose.
