Blackwater guards convicted by US court over Iraqi civilians’ killing

WASHINGTON: Four former Blackwater security guards were convicted over killing of 14 Iraqi civilians in Baghdad Nisour Square in 2007 by Federal District Court of the United States (US).

According to a foreign news agency, the guards had opened the fire on Iraqi civilians when US’s convoy was passing through the area, in which 14 people were killed and 17 critically injured on the spot.

After the incident, US officials had suspended the extension in security contract and authorities had changed the name of Blackwater from ‘Z Services’.

Prosecutor said that the guards’ act was very aggressive against Iraqi civilians.
