Saddam’s former air force officers training  ISIS fighters

DAMASCUS: Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) fighter were captured training to fly fighter jets at and air base in Syria yesterday.

According to reports, the fighters were being trained by Saddam Hussein ex air force officers on three fighter gets which were captured.

This is the first time that the militant group has taken to the air and raises the possibility of attacks on British, US and French targets in neighbouring Iraq.

UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights Rami Abdulrahman, who runs the base said the militants were flying the planes on ‘short flight’ training at the al-Jarrah military airport east of the city of Aleppo, where the group has a major base.

Witnesses near the base in northern Syria said the jets appeared to be decades old MiG21 or MiG23 models captured from the Syrian military.
