ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) said on Saturday in a report that rigging was proved in elections on as many as 20 national and provincial assemblies’ constituencies in the last general elections.
According to the ECP report, in 14 constituencies organised rigging by the winning candidates were proved in Election Tribunals while in six constituencies, partial rigging was committed.
The report said that the election tribunals had ordered re-elections in as many as 14 constituencies by declaring last general election as rigged.
It said that the MNAs and MPAs were de-notified on the election tribunal order, after it proved that they returned successful through rigging.
The report further said that of the 20 constituencies where rigging was proved seven are of National Assembly’s constituency while 13 are provincial assemblies’ constituency.
The report lend some credence to the allegation of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chief Imran Khan that last year’s general election were massively rigged.
It is to be mentioned here that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf is running a movement against the incumbent government, questioning its legitimacy on the basis of, what it said, rigged mandate.
