Top five Android smartphones of 2014

WASHINGTON: As fourth quarter of 2014 begins we have listed the top 5 smartphones which launch during the year and also made a solid impact in the smartphone market.

It been a tough year for smartphone companies as far as competition is concerned. Samsung, HTC, Nokia Apple, Google, Motorola, Sony and LG are few companies which dominated the smartphone market for the whole year.

1 Samsung Galaxy S5:

The Samsung Galaxy S5 is the company’s latest flagship smartphone and comes with high-end specs and features, including a 5.1-inch Super AMOLED display with a full HD resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. Under the hood, the handset packs a powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 quad-core processor and 2GB of RAM for a fast and fluid performance.

Other specs include 16GB of internal storage capacity, a microSD card slot for up to 128GB of additional memory, a 16-megapixel rear camera, a 2-megapixel front shooter, and a large 2,800 mAh battery to keep things up and running. On the software side, the Samsung Galaxy S5 runs the latest Android 4.4.2 KitKat operating system out of the box.

2 Motorola Moto X 2014:

The new Moto X is the company’s latest flagship smartphone, sporting notable improvements all around compared to its predecessor, while also retaining the slew of customization options that made the original Moto X so popular.

The new Moto X comes with a 5.2-inch AMOLED display with a full HD resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels, at a pixel density of 423 pixels per inch (ppi). Under the hood, the handset packs a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor clocked at 2.5GHz, with Adreno 330 graphics and 2GB of RAM. Other specs include 16GB or 32GB of internal storage capacity, a 13-megapixel rear camera with ring flash, a 2-megapixel front shooter, and a 2,300 mAh battery.

3 Samsung Galaxy Alpha:

The Samsung Galaxy Alpha is virtually a smaller version of the flagship Galaxy S5, but it boasts a metal frame instead of the full-polycarbonate body found on most Samsung devices, as well as slightly different specs.

In terms of specifications, highlights include a 4.7-inch HD 720p Super AMOLED display, a quad-core processor clocked at 2.5GHz, 2GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage capacity, and microSD support for additional storage of up to 128GB. Other specs include a 12-megapixel rear camera, a 2.1-megapixel front shooter, a heart rate monitor, a fingerprint reader, and a 1,860 mAh battery to keep things up and running. Connectivity options consist of 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, NFC, and Bluetooth 4.0. On the software side, the handset comes with the latest Android 4.4.4 KitKat on board out of the box.

4 HTC One M8:

HTC One M8 sports the same 5-inch full HD display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels, a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor clocked at 2.3GHz, and 2GB of RAM. Other specs include a choice of 16GB or 32GB of internal storage capacity, a microSD card slot for additional memory, a 5-megapixel front-facing shooter, and a dual rear camera setup with HTC’s UltraPixel technology. In terms of software, the smartphone runs the latest Android 4.4 KitKat and HTC’s own Sense 6.0 user interface (UI) on top.

5 LG G3:

The LG G3 boasts a stunning 5.5-inch display with a Quad HD (QHD) resolution of 2560 x 1440 and packs a powerful quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor clocked at 2.5GHz. Other specs include a 13-megapixel rear camera with laser auto focus and optical image stabilization (OIS), a 2-megapixel front shooter, a 3,000 mAh battery, and Android 4.4.2 KitKat on board. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi, 4G LTE, Bluetooth Smart Ready, NFC, and A-GPS/Glonass.

In terms of design and build, the LG G3 is made from a mixture of metal and plastic, which makes it look and feel premium, and its casing is also scratch- and fingerprint resistant. The smartphone measures 5.76 x 2.94 x 0.35 inches and has a beautiful design, but the QHD display is nonetheless its main attraction.
