15 arrested in Australia to avert IS attacks

CANBERRA: A massive operation was conducted in Sydney and Brisbane and police arrested as many as 15 people on Thursday (today) in the wake of intelligence reports that Islamic State (IS) militants were planning attacks on public.

The Australian police raided houses in Sydney and Brisbane in search of militants that were planning to target masses.

The police said as many as 15 suspected were arrested from Sydney but no arrests have been made in Brisbane.

Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott received a briefing last night on the police raid. Intelligence reports said that public beheadings were planned by the militants.
