Federal cabinet meeting to discuss flood and political situation

ISLAMABAD: The federal cabinet meeting underway in Islamabad in the chair of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to discuss flood situation in the country and political impasse in the country, media reported.

According to the report, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has ordered to make committee consisting of member of parliaments  to help flood victims.

The meeting also decided not to take any foreign aid for the flood hit areas and victims.

Chairman National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has briefed the cabinet about flood situation in the Punjab province.

The briefing stated that as many as 274 people fall prayed to heavy flood adding that around 1.1 million people suffered from flood and 43000 houses were destructed completely.

As many as 11 districts of Punjab affected due to heavy rains and flood of three of whom affected severely which included Jhang, Hafizabad and Chiniot.

The briefing told the cabinet that Army relief work continued with the help of boats and helicopters in the flood hit areas.

The Chairman NDMA said that the authority has been collecting data for the estimate of flood destruction.

At the occasion the PM Nawaz Sharif said that there is need of complete planning and strategy to tackle the flood devastation.

He ordered the NDMA to ascertain estimate for the damages in weeks instead in months.

The meeting also praised the relief and rescue services of Paksitan Army as well as police and rescue 1122 help in flood hit areas.
