Over 100,000 animals registered in Asia’s largest cattle market: Administrator

KARACHI: Tax exemptions for sacrificial animals and facilities at Karachi cattle market (maweshi mandi) have lured thousands of buyers and cattle merchants just in a week since its inauguration.

Merchants found tax exemption and facilities a good reason to come and sell their animals in the Mandi as till date total one lac sacrificial animals have there, while during the two holidays thousands of people from every nook and the corner of the city visited the Mandi.

It is worth adding here that Commissioner Karachi Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui announced tax exemption on all animals entering Karachi till Eid ul Azha. ‘A large number of people are coming to purchase sacrificial animals while facilities like free medicines and  medical checkup and vaccination for animals are also attracting merchants to set up their stalls at Asia’s biggest cattle market on super highway near Sohrab Goth,’ said the administrator of the Mandi Rana Imran.

He added that every day the numbers of people are increasing and it is expected to touch the highest numbers of visitors in the days to come. ‘The momentum of the Mandi will be seen when millions of people are coming to buy animals. Keeping this in mind, we have established a number of facilities for the visitors at the Cattle Market so that people can easily shop around without any sort of hassle,’ added Imran.

He said that administration is also monitoring all the canteen contractors for the smooth supply of food items, soft drinks and drinking water for the general public. He said canteen owner have been warned that no extra amount would be charged at their canteens while administration has taken strict notice of different shops selling food items at a higher rates.
