NEW DELHI: Indian government is all set to sign nuclear deal with Australia this evening during visit of Australian PM Tony Abbott in India for uranium trade.
Finalisation of nuclear deal is being considered as ‘big gift’ for Narendra Modi-led Indian government after years of negotiations with Australia, the world’s third-largest producer of uranium.
Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott confirmed that the deal will be signed this evening. He added, ‘Both PM Modi and I want to be known as infrastructure Prime Ministers.’
According to Indian media, India and Australia resumed negotiations on uranium sales in 2012 after lifting of a long-standing ban by Canberra on uranium exports to New Delhi.
The deal was finalised following guarantees and precautions for its peaceful usage by India, Australian officials said.
Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott arrived in India on September 4 (Thursday) to pay two-day visit in order to finalise a nuclear deal for uranium exports.
