LONDON: Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain has excused himself from continuing to lead the party.
Altaf once again requested MQM activists to relieve him of his duty. He said, ‘I cannot bear the burden of MQM leadership anymore. Workers should find out their new chief, as well as appropriate persons for Rabita Committee.’
Answering the call of MQM supremo, workers chanted slogans demanding Altaf to review his decision. The workers unanimously shouted that they wanted him to stay as their leader.
Altaf vowed that he would never surrender before the British government. ‘I am a patriotic Pakistani who suffered detainment several times for the sake of the country.’
Altaf said, ‘Please let me reach Karachi for 15 days; I will change Pakistan. If you allow me for six months Pakistan will be cleared of all issues.’
The MQM chief claimed that he could remove land mafia in Karachi within 15 days if he is allowed to return to Pakistan.
The workers vowed to sacrifice their lives for securing their leader.
Altaf criticised the MQM Rabita Committee and said that the party workers should find appropriate people to lead the committee.
The MQM chief complained that he had not much power to hold people accountable at MQM Secretariat in London as he could not inquire about the accounts’ updates as well as duty timings of the MQM leaders there.
He said that some party leaders were involved in illegal activities, including distribution of government jobs for commissions and sale of assets in Landhi and Korangi.
Altaf announced dissolving the Karachi Tanzeemi Committee (KTC) on next Thursday. He further said, ‘People with positive record and attitude will be appointed in Rabita Committee.’
He warned that ‘every party worker should become active by next Thursday after which all non-active workers will be ousted from the party.’
