ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan has said that Army Chief Raheel Sharif assured him of fair and transparent investigations of rigging in last general elections.
Addressing the PTI sit-inners, he made it clear to Army Chief there could be no transparent probe in the presence of Nawaz Sharif as PM. He added that the sit-inn would continue if the PM did not resign.
Imran said that Army Chief has told him that the government had requested him to play the role of arbiter and after that it looks that the government has realised that all the other options to resolve the issue politically were now closed.
The PTI Chief said that the COAS informed him about probe by a judicial commission and assured him that it would be fair and transparent.
But Imran told the COAS that the probe would not be fair and transparent until Nawaz Sharif remained PM.
The PTI head informed the protesters that he suggested to the Army Chief the Government could continue with its ministers but Premier Nawaz Sharif must resign.
He said that the PTI negotiation team would give the suggestion to the government and the situation would become clear by Friday (today) evening.
The sit-inn would be continued if these negotiation failed and “we will spread the movement throughout the country”, Imran added.
He said that they would celebrate independence if “our demands are accepted. Otherwise we would announce the next strategy”.
He added that they had reached this position due to the the support of the public. “The government was unwilling to talk to us in the beginning,” he said. “We have come closer to our objectives.”
