389 people killed in China after high intensity earth quake on August 3

BEIJING: At least 389 have been killed so far and hundreds injured when a high intensity earth quake struck the south western part of China on Sunday, TheNewsTribe reported.

The resources of the US Geological Survey said the quake struck about 11km north-west of Wenping in Yunnan province at 16:30 local time (08:30 GMT).

One local official told China’s official news agency that cores of houses had collapsed just after the quake while state broadcaster CCTV said the earthquake was the strongest in last 14 years.

It should be noted that a similar quake of magnitude 7.7 in the same city had killed at least 15,000 people about 14 years ago.
