Kashmir’s Yaseen Malik, others held by Indian police

SRINAGAR: Indian police and paramilitary forces arrested Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front Chairman, Muhammad Yasin Malik along with many party leaders and activists in his native Maisuma area of Srinagar, Indian troops martyred two more youths in Sopore town on Monday.

Curfew and strict restrictions were imposed by placing concertina wires on all the entry and exit points in Srinagar and adjoining areas to prevent the JKLF leaders to lead the Lal Chowk March. Muhammad Yasin Malik had called for the march to commence his Quit Kashmir programme.

On the other hand, shutdown was observed in Kashmir Valley on the call of Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front. Police said that areas falling under Maisuma, Kothi Bagh and Kralkhud police stations were sealed and the market places wore a deserted look while schools and colleges remained closed.

Police used brute force on protesters in Shopian, Pulwama, Maisuma, Nowhatta and other areas of the territory and arrested dozens including JKLF leaders, Showkat Ahmad Bakhshi and Noor Muhammad Kalwal. They were proceeding towards Lal Chowk as part of Quit Kashmir campaign.

Indian troops in their fresh act of state terrorism, martyred two youth during a siege and search operation at Krank Shovan Colony in Sopore, on Monday.

Police arrested APHC leader, Mukhtar Ahmad Waza when he along with his supporters tried to hold a protest demonstration in Srinagar.

APHC leaders, Zafar Akbar Butt and Javed Ahmad Mir led an anti-India rally in Tral to protest against the recent killing of three youth by Indian army and police. Hundreds of people including children and women participated in the rally. The protesters raised pro-freedom and anti-India slogans, on the occasion.

Hurriyet leader, Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai addressing a meeting in Srinagar reiterated the Kashmiris’ resolve to continue struggle for securing right to self-determination till success.
