MUMBAI: Indian actress Monika, who was the queen of Tamil movies, has converted to Islam, ‘Times of India’ (TOI) reported on Saturday.
“After musicians AR Rahman and Yuvan Shankar Raja, the latest to join the bandwagon of those who converted to Islam is actress Monika,” said TOI.
While talking to media, the actress revealed that she has left film industry after becoming a Muslim.
She has embraced Islam because she was attracted to Islamic rules. She started reading about the religion in 2010 with the misconception that it promotes extremism but she discovered that Islam is a peaceful religion.
The former actress said that she will get married soon as per her parents’ wishes.
Monika has changed her name to MG Rahima where ‘M’ has been extracted from her father’s name Marothi Raj while ‘G’ represents her mother’s name Gracy.
Former actress has done films like Inidhu Inidhu Kadhal Inidhu, Isai Arasan 23m Pulikesi, Varnam and the latest Jannal Oram.
She has also released her picture in ‘Hijab’;
