SRINAGAR: Complete shutdown was observed in West region of occupied kashmir on Friday to pay glowing tributes to the two women, Aasiya and Neelofar, who were abducted, molested and subsequently killed by men in uniform in Shopian five years ago in 2009.
All business establishments and educational institutions remained closed while traffic was off the road. Call for the strike was given by the all Parties Hurriyat Conference (G) Chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani.
Hurriyet leaders, Shabbir Ahmad Shah, Sahbbir Ahmad Dar, Muhammad Yousuf Naqash and Muhammad Yousuf Mir addressing a big gathering in Shopian called for a probe by International community into the tragic incident.
Despite use of all brutal tactics, the leaders said, New Delhi has failed to suppress the Kashmiris’ freedom sentiments. Syed Ali Geelani addressed the rally over phone from Srinagar. The people on the occasion raised slogans like “We Want Freedom”, “Go India Go” and “Pakistan Zindabad”.
Indian police arrested several leaders and activists of Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front including Bashir Ahmad Butt, Showkat Ahmad Bakhshi, Noor Muhammad Kalwal, Muhammad Yasin Butt and Bashir Ahmad Kashmiri in Pulwama to prevent them from visiting the family of victim women in Shopian.
On the other hand, the Chairman of All Parties Hurriyet Conference, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq addressing Juma congregation at Jamia Masjid in Srinagar, today, said that the people of Kashmir were determined to continue their freedom struggle till its logical conclusion. He said that the Kashmiris would not compromise on anything less than their inalienable right to self-determination.
APHC leaders, Mukhtar Ahmad waza, Zafar Akbar Butt and Javed Ahmad Mir in their address in different areas called upon India and Pakistan to prioritize peaceful settlement of the Kashmir dispute to ensure peace and stability in the South Asian region.
