ISLAMABAD: In response to accusations by Pakistani political leaders and journalists that US is funding a particular Pakistani media house, United States (US) embassy has explained that many media houses and institutions in Pakistan are provided assistance for professional development and capacity building by US government.
US government has claimed all those accusations as ‘misleading and inaccurate’ in a press release issued by US embassy.
It further said that US government strongly supports free and professional media.
According to the press release, the goal of US government is to encourage balanced reporting and dissemination of right message, be it Pakistan or elsewhere.
It is interesting to note here that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan has boycotted Jang newspaper and Geo TV. According to his statement, the media group had helped Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML- N) in 2013 to win the elections.
PTI even recorded a peaceful protest against the alleged rigging in last year’s election at D-Chowk Islamabad on Sunday (May 11, 2013).
