ISLAMABAD: Senator Mushahid Hussain Sayed, Secretary General Pakistan Muslim League-Q and Chairman Senate Defence Committee has filed Adjournment Motion in Senate on Metro Bus Project, says a press statement issued on Sunday.
The draft of the motion, mentioning media reports, said that the business of the Senate may be adjourned to discuss an urgent matter of public importance which affects the citizens of the Federal Capital, namely, the MetroBus Project, which has been launched in Islamabad in violation of Section 12 of the Environment Protection Act, 1997.
Senator Mushahid, who represents Federal Capital in the Upper House, said that the beauty, environment and green belt of the unique city of Islamabad are all threatened by the manner in which the MetroBus Project is being bull-dozed in violation of all laws, rules and regulations.
“The Act clearly states that an Environment Impact Assessment (EIA) has to be submitted and approved by the Environment Protection Agency (EPA), PRIOR to launching of any project. Additionally, probably for the first time in the history of the Federal Capital, a project for Islamabad is being executed by the Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA), and NOT by the CDA, which is the relevant agency for this purpose.” The Senator concluded.
