LAHORE: Abdul Hafeez Ahmed, the head of the Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) election committee for new ‘Ameer’, said that the voting for new Ameer has been completed and counting of votes would begin on March 29 at Mansoora Lahore.
In a statement here on Wednesday, the committee chief, Abdul Hafeez Ahmed said that the election of the JIP Ameer was a regular, constitutional process and 32,600 JI Arakeen (members) had to vote for the top slot of the party for a period of five years.
He said that the voting had been completed on March 20. Last date for the receipt of the ballot boxes at Mansoora from all over the country was March 28.
The ballot boxes would be opened on March 29, and the counting would be started. The name of the new Ameer elected would be announced three days after the completion of the counting process.
Meanwhile, the Anti Privatization committee of the Jamaat-e-Islami, met at Mansoora with the JI Secretary General, Liaquat Baloch, in the chair. The committee reviewed the campaign so far and decided the future line of action.
The meeting decided to hold an Economic Experts seminar at Lahore on April 10. It also decided to hold protest rallies, meetings and conferences against the privatization of major state owned industries.
Addressing the meeting, Liaquat Baloch said that the IMF and the World Bank wanted to push Pakistan’s economy under the oppressive capitalist system through privatization of profit earning concerns.
He said that even in the past, the rulers had doled out state owned industries and banks to their cronies on throw away prices due to which thousands of workers were rendered jobless.
He said that the privatization of more state concerns by the present rulers would bring more disaster to the economy.
The meeting appointed a committee for the prevention of privatization; The NLF President Shamur Rahman Swati would be its coordinator.
