CHITTAGONG: New Zealand beat tough rivals England by nine runs in an ICC World Twenty 20 match here at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury stadium.
In an important group 1 match, New Zealand took on tough rivals England and beat them by 9 runs.
England’s Moeen Ali made 36 runs while Buttler scored 32 runs as New Zealand allowed them to bat first after winning the toss.
England put 172 for the loss of 6 wickets in 20 overs.
New Zealand needed to bat for five overs, in reply to England’s challenging but far from secure total of 172 for 6, to bring rain calculations into play in the event of a washed out match.
Chasing 173 to win, New Zealand were 52 for one in 5.2 overs when heaven opened up. Batsmen Brendon McCullum and Kane Williamson soon dashed off to the pavilion.
Amidst thunders claps and forks of lightning, McCullum blasted two sixes and a four in the fifth over to put New Zealand ahead on D/L. The only batsman to be dismissed is Martin Guptill (11)
New Zealand’s Corey Anderson was given ‘Man of the Match’ award.
