KARACHI: Director General Ranger Sindh Rizwan Akhtar on Wednesday has said that criminals must be punished and it cannot be happened without providing protection to witnesses.
DG Rangers were talking to media after inaugurating command and control system at Federal B area Industrial Area.
He said they the Rangers only has the power to launch search operation only, adding that they have to handed over to police as they could not keep accused in Rangers custody.
He has said that through a piece of paper you cannot increase powers of any institution, adding that the Rangers could not continue the search operation for long period
Issuance of illegal SIMS could not be stopped which were cause of crime in the city, it must be stopped, he said.
Akhtar said without speaking truth Karachi’s law and order situation could not be resolved and he stressed the media and society to speak truth.
Peace could be established in the society until criminal got punishment for the crime being committed, he stressed.
Talking about Rangers presence in the city he said, Rangers has 14 wings in the city and all the wings consisting up of 550 rangers personnel.
He said they were working more than their capacity but there was need to increase rangers personnel in the city.
Speaking about importance of city he said, if Lahore is heart of the country then Karachi is jugular vein of the country.
About police, the DG rangers viewed that police has facing more problems and they are in more danger and they also sacrificed more than the Rangers.
He informed the media that they demanded scanners to be installed at entrance places of the metropolis but government still failed to provide it.
