ISLAMABAD: The Pakistani federal government seemed willing to appoint Justice Retired Rana Bhagwandas on the post of Chief Election Commission (CEC) of Pakistan, local media reported.
Pakistani federal government and opposition showed agreement over the appointment of former acting chief justice of the Supreme Court of Pakistan on top post of the country’s electoral board, Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).
The federal government would present an amendment in the constitution on Friday (tomorrow) in order to remove legal complications for the appointment of a retired judge on the post.
According to reports, Pakistan government has contacted the opposition leader in National Assembly; made agreement to resolve specific flaws in the constitution for his appointment.
Mr. Justice (Retired) Rana Bhagwandas became the first Hindu and the second non-Muslim to serve as Chief of the Supreme Court in Pakistan when the incumbent Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry went on foreign tours in 2005 and 2006.
