Facebook owned Whatsapp will soon have a free voice calling feature – something that has been missing in the app for too long since Viber and other competitors have provided that service way back.
Jan Koum, CEO of Whatspapp, announced the news at the Mobile World Congress held in Barcelona.
Company’s basic motivation behind this humongous step is to attract lots more users and challenge other VoIP companies like Skype, which has huge user base for free calls.
Koum earlier defined the ideology of Whatsapp in a blog post, “our team has always believed that neither cost and distance should ever prevent people from connecting with their friends and loved ones, and won’t rest until everyone, everywhere is empowered with that opportunity.”
And Whatsapp definitely has a special appeal about it and that is why it is the most popular app in terms of messaging. And Facebook has bought Whatsapp for its popularity worldwide.
Like Mark Zuckerberg said about Whatsapp, “It’s on a path to connecting a billion people. There are very few services in the world that can reach that level and they’re all incredibly valuable.”
